Crown green bowls: A fantastic way for people of all ages to stay active through gentle exercise, and meet new people to combat social isolation.

Today I visited Luneside and Rosebank Bowling and Recreation Club in Fairfield in Lancaster to get bowling and talk about the social value and health benefits of the sport.

It was fantastic to hear about their bowling sessions as part of the Communities Healthy & Active Together (CHAT) programme on Monday mornings from 10am-12pm, and social bowling Friday afternoon sessions which are open to the community – whilst also working with local GPs to encourage social prescribing.

Currently with around 80 members, Luneside and Rosebank Bowling and Recreation Club provides a really beautiful peaceful space in the city, where members can also sit, read, chat and socialise whilst watching a game or two.

The clubhouse has refreshment facilities and a snooker table, with assistive devices for bowling for those who may be older or have health and mobility needs.

If you’d like to join or find out more, please contact the club secretary Graham Brandwood at [email protected].
