National Highways are resurfacing and refreshing road markings on all three lanes on the northbound carriageway of the M6 between junction 33 and 34 near Lancaster.
The works will take place overnight from Monday 29th June until Saturday 18th July, Monday to Saturday. Working hours will be 7pm – 6:30am Monday to Friday, and 7pm – 7:30am on Saturdays.
I welcome the resurfacing work given the regularity of incidents on the M6, but the city’s one-way system is already overburdened and fragile, so I have asked that Lancashire County Council and National Highways consider a more pragmatic approach to begin weekday motorway closures at 9pm once peak traffic volumes have subsided, rather than diverting motorway traffic through Lancaster from 7pm for three weeks.
UPDATE: 12/06/26
National Highways have updated me to advise that the full closure, with traffic diverted onto the A6, will be in place from 9pm on most evenings and slightly later on others.
Thier works schedule has now been updated to a 9pm start.
