🚸 Yesterday I joined representatives from Lancashire County Council, Road Safety Officers, Civil Enforcement Officers and the Police on Derwent Road outside Christ Church Primary School for the ‘STOP means STOP’ day of action.
⚠️ This campaign comes after several worrying incidents last year, including two collisions in Lancashire involving on-duty School Crossing Patrol (SCP) officers. While the vast majority of drivers are courteous and follow instructions, a small minority continue to ignore SCPs – putting them, children, and other vulnerable road users at risk.
🚦 Let’s be absolutely clear:
👉 Drivers have a legal duty to obey School Crossing Patrol signals. Stop means STOP. No excuses.
👉 Failure to stop can lead to a fine of up to £1,000 and 3 penalty points.
👉 If someone is injured, the consequences can be even more serious.
🦺 Our SCPs are true community heroes, helping to keep children safe every single day. We also need parents and carers to play their part by respecting parking restrictions, including zig-zag lines, which exist solely to protect children at busy school times.
🤝 Thank you to everyone who took part in the day of action, let’s continue to work together to keep our roads safe for all.
