For #LancashireLovesLocal last week, I went to visit Collinswood over in Knott-End. Collinswood is a unique family-run, bespoke furniture store that is such an exciting addition to the high-street for everyone in Knott-End, and the rest of Lancashire.
Darren Collins, is the business owner, he makes the furniture himself from pieces of wood that would otherwise be tipped. Darren crafts one-of-a-kind tables, chairs, light fittings and so much more, whilst making an effort to ethically source his materials and minimise all waste. His furniture is made to last and his business ethos is all about sustainability. Darren explained that he wants to lend the skills that he has, to reduce over-consumption, and throw-away culture.
It’s assuring to know that Lancashire is home to so many environmentally conscious businesses, and that local entrepreneurs like Darren are doing their bit for the planet. In my capacity as a member for the Environmental Audit Committee, I will look to represent such local efforts, that are being made towards Net-Zero, in Westminster!
Also, Darren has been taking in pre-loved items to upcycle and give them a new life. He says this has been very popular with Knott-End locals, who have been dropping in to the store about their old, but loved pieces, to see what Darren can muster up for them. No task seems too large for Darren! In his workshop, I saw an old, out of use piano that he was upcycling and turning into a bar for a client – It’s all so impressive, you must go see it for yourself!
Darren’s clientele is predominantly online, however, their recently opened shop front, located at 2 Barton House, Barton Square, Knott end-on-sea FY6 0BN, is a new venture and it is truly spectacular! Every corner of the store is stocked with beautiful furniture, rare pieces of art, and other local crafts people’s products that would make for perfect, unique gifts!
If you get the chance, I would encourage anyone drop-in to Collinswood! You can explore their website here: https://collinswood.co.uk/.
