This week I took part in the 2022 IPT Poppy Ride in partnership with the Royal British Legion.
In 5 minutes I cycled 2.9km – and was super chuffed to find I was the third fastest woman!
The Industry and Parliament Trust (IPT) is an independent, non-lobbying, non-partisan charity that provides a trusted platform of engagement between Parliament and UK business.
This was the sixth annual IPT Poppy Ride, in association with the Royal British Legion, which raises funds and awareness for the Poppy Appeal in Parliament. MPs and Peers have taken part in the 10-hour static bike ride, each cycling as far as they can on an exercise bike in 5 minutes and trying to beat their colleagues to top the leader board.
All money raised helps the Royal British Legion provide lifelong financial, social, and emotional support for the Armed Forces community.
During this year’s Poppy Appeal the Royal British Legion is urging people to wear a poppy to show that they care and that the service and sacrifice of serving personnel, veterans and their families will never be forgotten.
In the course of their work, members of the Armed Forces regularly miss spending time with their own family to protect others and, despite having never met the people they defend, will risk everything to protect the nation. Members of the Armed Forces can face life-long challenges, risk injury, and some make the ultimate sacrifice.
The Royal British Legion provides a lifeline for serving personnel, veterans and their families, supporting them in the face of hardships, injuries and bereavements. From the children of serving personnel to the oldest veterans and everyone in between the Royal British Legion is there for the Armed Forces community, every step of the way. From providing expert advice and guidance to recovery, through to transitioning to civilian life – we are a lifelong friend and support to every member of the Armed Forces community.
The Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal takes place from Thursday 27th October until Remembrance Sunday on 13th November. To find out more or to donate please visit rbl.org.uk.
